Dedicated to the Adventure in Pleasant Listening that is High Fidelity Amplitude Modulation on the Ham Bands!

W3AM is sadly condo-bound here in South Florida. Periodic guest operation with other pitying hams is my only refuge at the moment.

While I use SSB, NBFM and other low-fi modes all the time, I have a particularly warm fondness for the superior sound quality and relaxed and courteous operating style that is unique to AM (Angel Music).
The organic experience of using vintage equipment with those curious glass objects inside that get so darned hot and smell so, well, electronic, flows naturally into the ultimate tranquility and zen-like oneness with the ether you'll feel when operating AM. So come on, pour yourself a highball, fire up that old Viking, and become a vessel empty of yourself!
And, the chicks really dig it.

Check into the West Coast AM International Net on 3870 KHz, Wednesday nights at 9:00PM, Pacific Time. Don't have a boatanchor? No problem! Just put your rice box into the AM mode and join the nicest crowd on the ham bands! Your crusty but huggable host is Ken, K6CJA.

TECH TIP:

I have found that these metal plates were the source of most of the TVI in my old neighborhood. Removing them reduced interference complaints by >30dB...

If you are interested in AM, I urge you to join Amplitude Modulation International, AMI. This organization, headed by the gracious and legendary Dale Gagnon, KW1I, promotes the enjoyment and preservation of AM on the ham bands. For a mere $2 you will be issued an AMI number and a handsome certificate to hang on your shack wall next to that map of the world and Johnson Desk or BTA-50 Ampliphase pinup. Visitors will be agog. (Sorry, but the SSB decoder rings have been discontinued because of lack of interest...)
Their address is:
AM International

Merrimack, New Hampshire 03054-1500

I am looking for a single-cabinet 1KW AM broadcast transmitter.
A Gates BC-1H, Collins 820-D2 or similar would be really swell.
